Grown, packaged and shipped exclusively by Wekiva Foliage. It is a cultivar between Alocasia odora and Alocasia reginula, belonging to Africa. This quick-grower forms a dense bush of long stalks supporting the giant leaves looking somewhat similar like the ears of the elephant.
Leaves are large and blackish-green in color with lighter venation. Each leaf is standing on a long and erect, stalk-like stem. These hardy plants are a good choice to grow in gardens and open spaces.
If you grow Alocasia regal shield under the right care conditions, this aroid rapidly grows to a height of 4 – 5 feet (1.2 – 1.5 meters) and spreads out laterally with the leaves supported by long and erect petioles. They are self headers that get as wide as they are tall.
They prefer bright shade, high humidity, consistent moisture, soft porous soil and warm temperatures throughout the year. In addition to all of these, they like space.
Whether in garden soil or in a container, they want consistently moist soil, and good drainage. In all but tropical climates, they’ll need to overwinter indoors in bright indirect light.
